Martha Horvay grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and has taught art and design at University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 1983.  She is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design.  Her educational background is varied and includes a B.S.D. from University of Michigan in industrial design, an M.A. in printmaking from University of Louisville, and an M.F.A. in painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University.

Ms. Horvay works primarily in acrylic paint and collage, with experience in public sculpture as well.  A four-time recipient of Nebraska Arts Council Individual Artists Fellowships, she has been in numerous solo and group shows, including solo exhibitions at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney.  She is an alumna of A.I.R. Gallery, a non-profit cooperative gallery in New York, and is currently represented by Modern Arts Midwest in Lincoln.   Her abstract depictions of architecture and manufactured objects often utilize repeating pattern and isometric perspective to create an illusion that hovers between flat and dimensional.
