Visual Literacy at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln is a dynamic program of courses that will stimulate and challenge your thinking and the way that you look at the world around you. In “Vis Lit” you’ll participate in a community of faculty and students committed to exploring all aspects of visual images, artifacts and media. Within that broad umbrella you’ll learn how to produce and evaluate a range of visual forms and structures, and to relate them to the cultures, your own and others, that produce them and communicate through them. You’ll learn to bring rigor and discipline to your work, and you’ll learn how to evaluate your efforts and their outcome in the projects you’ll develop.
Vis Lit offers you a unique opportunity to work closely with design, art and media faculty in studio/lab situations where one-on-one interaction is the norm, and in which continual exchanges with your peers strengthens your experience and the development of your portfolio. The rich breadth of opportunities that the University offers to come in close contact with visiting professionals through exhibitions, lectures and classroom presentations complements the work of the courses and expands the background that you will take with you once you move on to work in your major. Visual Literacy is the portal to your creative future, and its faculty looks forward to working with you to maximize the benefits of your experience in it.
