140 A, Analysis & Composition

 

Analysis and Composition is designed to give you background in each of the following areas:

1. the basic principles and pertinent vocabulary of two- and three-dimensional design
2. hand-drafting, collage making and model building skills and techniques, and the imperative necessity of quality and appropriateness with regard to craft in all work
3. orthographic representation and the skills necessary to translate simple ideas into two- and three-dimensional objects
4. having and using the sketchbook as a tool for all design processes
5. developing a sensitivity to the importance of process as the emphasis of design work, rather than the “final product” as an end in itself
6. developing your spatial awareness and your skill at representing space
7. critical thinking through group and one-on-one critique, used as a method to develop your ability to speak and receive opinions directly about your work
