The aim of this course is to experience design as a process which you can apply to other contexts and to other media in your continuing design education. You will be using drawing as designers do: to investigate and to describe form; to translate three-dimensional form to 2 dimensions and vice versa; to think visually (developing and communicating ideas); to explore what is imagined and remembered as well as what is seen (asking “what if”). In this course, you will have the opportunity to explore both representational and more abstract methods of visual expression; perceptual drawing, in which you draw from observation, is covered in Visual Literacy 140B.
You will also gain skill in getting and developing ideas and critiquing your own and others’ work, and you experience a variety of materials and techniques in both two dimensional and three dimensional design.
